Hair Transplant Procedure – Hair Extraction

First step of hair transplant procedure is hair extraction. For the last decade, FUE (follicular unit extraction) is the most common hair extraction method. In the 80s, FUT (follicular unit transplant) was the only method. But this method causes scarring.

With advancements in medical science, FUE method has become the most popular hair extraction method. In addition to FUE method, DHI (direct hair transplant) uses CHOI pens to extract hairs grafts. In case of FUE, hair grafts are separately extracted. Then, these grafts are placed in a solution to remove the skin. With CHOI pens, there is no need for this procedure.

Hair Transplant Procedure – Hair Implant

There are total of three methods for hair implant. In hair transplant procedure, Slit and Sapphire are combined with FUE hair extraction method. In DHI method, hair grafts collected with CHOI pens are directly implanted. CHOI pens enable collecting hair roots without any skin around hair roots. This speeds up implanting process.

In Slit and Sapphire method, hair implants are placed inside opened channels. However, channels are opened with different methods in these methods. In Slit method, channels are opened with surgeon’s blade. In Sapphire method, channels are opened with diamond edged blade. Diamond edges blades cause less damage than surgeon’s blade. Depending on patient’s hair type, one of these methods are selected.
