Hair transplant scar is the main concern of people who want to have hair transplant. In any operation, scarring is undesired. However, scarring cannot be avoided in some operations. Now, technology enables doctors perform operations that do not leave any scar or mark.
In hair transplant, scarring has always been an issue. In most cases, men want to have short hair. In this case, scarring becomes an issue for them. Short hair might show the scarring on the scalp. This often creates a cosmetic problem.
Hair Transplant Scar
When this operation was first started, hair transplant scar was common. In the 80s and 90s, FUT (follicular unit transplant) caused scarring. This scarring was on the back part of the head. This is because doctors need to suture the donor area after collecting hair strips. Naturally, suturing caused scar tissue. But, there is no scarring with new transplant methods. FUE and DHI does not require any suturing. Since there is no suturing, scarring is no longer an issue in hair transplant.
Will I Have Scar After Hair Transplant?
FUE or DHI hair transplant does not lead to hair transplant scar. In general, these methods are also known as scar-free operations. In FUE and DHI, separate hair grafts rather than hair strips are collected.
Also, each hair grafts is implanted separately. This further decreases the chance of scarring. FUE need channels while DHI hair transplant does not need these channels. I both cases, there will not be any scarring in both donor and transplant region.
There is misconception about crusting. Crusting is not a scar. This process shows that you scalp is healing properly. Regardless of the hair transplant method, all hair transplant patients will experience crusting. After couple of months, these crusts will fall on their own. These crusts should be removed by patient. Removing these crusts might cause scarring.
