When it comes to hair transplant, most people know this operation as FUE hair transplant. Actually, FUE (follicular unit extraction) is the hair extraction technique. This technique needs to be combined with a suitable hair implanting technique.
Hair transplant consists of two main stages which are hair extraction and implanting. Since most doctors use FUE technique as the hair extraction, this technique is now used as the name of hair transplant. In addition to FUE extraction technique, DHI (direct hair implant) method can be used as well. In DHI, both extraction and implanting are completed with the same devices called CHOI pens.
FUE Hair Transplant
In FUE hair transplant, hair grafts are collected from the donor area of the patient. Since patient’s own hair are used, rejection ratios or allergy risks are extremely low. Hair grafts might contain 1 to 3 hair roots. When these roots are collected, they are placed inside a special solution. This solution will help cleaning all remaining tissue around hair roots.
Meanwhile, doctor will open channels to recipient area. If these channels are opened with surgeon’s blade, this technique is called Slit. On the other hand, if diamond tipped blades are used, this technique is called Sapphire. These techniques are selected by the doctor based on age, hair quality and scalp characteristics of the patient.
After the channels are opened, collected grafts are placed in these channels. Each hair graft is placed separately. This way, natural hairline can be obtained.
Is Hair Transplant Permanent?
After FUE hair transplant, many people ask whether this operation will be permanent. After completing entire recovery cycle which can take up to 1 year, new transplanted hair will be permanent. If you follow all recommendations of the doctor and transplant team, you can enjoy fuller hair with great hairline.
